Lagos APC GAC Endorses Obafemi Hamzat as Consensus Candidate for 2027 Governorship

The Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest advisory body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has endorsed the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The development was disclosed on Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, in a post on X.

The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) today unanimously endorsed and adopted the Deputy Governor of Lagos State Dr Obafemi Hamzat to be consensus candidate for the 2027 elections in Lagos State,” he wrote.

According to the post, the endorsement was announced by GAC leader, Tajudeen Olusi, during a meeting held at Lagos House, Marina.

Gawat added that members of the council also paid for Hamzat’s nomination form.

“The GAC members also announced that they paid for his nomination form. The endorsement signals growing alignment within the Lagos chapter of the APC ahead of the 2027 elections,” he stated.

The endorsement comes a day after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu publicly declared Hamzat as his preferred successor.

Sanwo-Olu made the announcement following a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where Hamzat formally informed members of the State Executive Council and party leaders of his intention to contest the governorship seat.

“We just received Mr Deputy, who had come with a very powerful delegation of our leaders in the state to inform us of his intention to contest for the seat of the governorship position of the state.

“It was unanimous with all of us to say that Mr Deputy Governor is a man who is fit and well-prepared for this job. He is a man who knows where all the rooms in the house are,” the governor said.

He further cited Hamzat’s integrity, loyalty, commitment, and long-standing support, describing him as well-positioned to lead the state.
