The Edo State Government has approved full educational scholarships for the three children of late Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who died while serving in active military duty.
Governor Monday Okpebholo approved the scholarship package on Thursday, covering the children’s education from their current academic levels through university.
In a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Akhere, the administration said the decision reflects its commitment to honouring fallen military personnel and supporting the families they leave behind.
The beneficiaries are:
Farida Hussain-Braimah, an 18-year-old 100-level Software Engineering student at Nile University
Amir Hussain-Braimah, a 16-year-old SS3 student at Olumawu Senior School
Yasmeen Hussain-Braimah, a 12-year-old JSS2 pupil at Olumawu Junior Secondary School
Describing the gesture as a moral obligation, Governor Okpebholo said the state had a duty to support the family of the late officer.
“Brigadier General Braimah paid the ultimate price in service to this country. It is only right that we stand by the family he left behind and ensure his children have uninterrupted access to education,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
He reiterated that the state government would support the children throughout their academic journey to help secure their future.
Braimah was killed during an attack on military positions in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State while participating in counter-insurgency operations under Operation Hadin Kai.
According to reports, terrorists attacked the 29 Task Force Brigade with heavy weapons, operating for several hours and destroying multiple military vehicles.
Governor Okpebholo said the scholarship initiative aligns with the education component of his administration’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritises human capital development and social welfare.
“No child of an Edo hero should be denied the opportunity to succeed. This is about responsibility, honour, and a deliberate investment in the future,” he added.
