EFCC Boss Tasks Legal Officers on Precision, Stronger Case Building to Boost Conviction Rates

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has urged the Commission’s legal officers to raise their standards of diligence, accuracy, and professionalism in the drafting of charges and court applications, as part of efforts to strengthen the prosecution of financial crimes in Nigeria.

Olukoyede gave the charge recently in Abuja during the opening of a three-day intensive training programme for EFCC legal officers held at the EFCC Academy. He was represented at the event by the Director of the Legal and Prosecution Department, Sylvanus Tahir, SAN.

He stressed that careful and meticulous case preparation remains central to securing successful prosecutions and maintaining public trust in the Commission’s anti-corruption mandate.

Describing the initiative as strategic, Olukoyede said the training aligns with the Commission’s operational priorities for the year and is aimed at strengthening the capacity of legal officers across all EFCC commands nationwide.

He noted that improving competence across critical areas such as charge drafting, evidence handling, appeals management, and trial preparation is essential for more effective prosecution of financial crimes and related offences.

The training programme focuses on enhancing practical skills in preparing airtight cases, gathering admissible evidence, managing appeals, and improving overall courtroom readiness for complex financial crime trials.
