The Eleda of Eda-Oniyo, Oba Joseph Awolola, has disclosed that kidnappers who abducted 15 worshippers in Ekiti State are demanding a ransom of ₦1 billion for their release.
The victims were seized during a night vigil at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) No. 2 in Eda-Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area. A guest pastor was reportedly killed during the attack, which has heightened tension in the community.
Oba Awolola made the revelation while receiving a government delegation led by Brig.-Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana, Special Adviser on Security to Governor Biodun Oyebanji. The delegation also included the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, and the local government chairman, Pius Alaba.
The monarch said the community is ready to cooperate with security agencies to address the growing insecurity in the area.
Alaba further disclosed that among those abducted is a family of four a mother and her three children adding that efforts are ongoing to secure their safe release.
The Ekiti State Government condemned the attack, describing it as “heinous and unacceptable.” Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, assured residents that security agencies are intensifying efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
Security operatives, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes, have been mobilised for a coordinated response.
The government has also deployed the 148th Battalion of the Nigerian Army to the area, alongside expanded surveillance operations aimed at tracking down the attackers and preventing further incidents.
