Key members of the Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday publicly distanced themselves from an alleged plot to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde, pledging unwavering loyalty to his administration.
The development follows claims by the Assembly’s Chief Whip, Gbenga Oyekola, who accused the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, and former First Lady, Florence Ajimobi, of attempting to destabilise the current administration.
Oyekola alleged that the Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin, had been invited by the Olubadan after earlier seeking the monarch’s backing for his governorship ambition. During the reported meeting, the monarch was said to have advised the Speaker and allegedly offered to support him with a House of Representatives ticket under the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside financial assistance.
However, according to Oyekola, the Speaker declined the offer.
In a strongly worded statement, Oyekola denied any involvement in moves capable of disrupting the state’s stability.
“I completely disassociate myself from any arrangement or activity that has the potential to disrupt the peace of Oyo State. I was never invited, consulted, or part of such meetings,” he said.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Makinde, stressing his commitment to the administration’s continuity and the state’s progress.
“I cannot and will not be disloyal to my boss… I remain firmly committed to the peace, unity, and continued progress of Oyo State,” he added.
Similarly, the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, who represents Ona Ara State Constituency, also denied any involvement in an impeachment plot or efforts to destabilise the state.
