Power Boost: Nigeria’s Electricity Generation Jumps to 4,300MW on Improved Gas Supply

Nigeria’s power sector has recorded a notable uptick in electricity generation, climbing from 3,951 megawatts (MW) to 4,300MW within a two-week period, signaling gradual recovery in energy output.

The update was disclosed in Abuja by Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

According to Tunji, the increase recorded between March 28 and April 10 was largely driven by improved gas supply to thermal power plants, a long-standing challenge in Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

He noted that the development aligns with earlier assurances by Adelabu, who had pledged a noticeable improvement in power supply within two weeks.

“This increase reflects better efficiency in converting gas into electricity, alongside enhanced coordination among key stakeholders in the sector,” Tunji said.

Despite intermittent daily fluctuations in output, the overall trajectory points to a steady recovery, underpinned by more reliable gas availability and operational synergy across the power ecosystem.

The latest figures offer cautious optimism for consumers and businesses alike, as the government continues efforts to stabilise electricity supply in Africa’s largest economy.
