Roby Ekpo Pushes Back on ₦100m Demand, Denies Defamation Claims in Dispute with Estranged Wife

Media personality Robert Ekpo, popularly known as Roby Ekpo, has rejected a cease-and-desist notice issued by his estranged wife, Mayowa Lambe, describing her ₦100 million damages demand as excessive and unfounded.

Ekpo, through his solicitors at TAP Legal Services, made his position known in a response dated April 23 and shared on his official Instagram page. The letter, signed by M. M. Obonb, was addressed to Chinedu Nwaneri of Aunt Landa’s Bethel Foundation.

The legal team confirmed receipt of Lambe’s earlier notice but stated that their client “categorically denies” the allegations and rejects claims that his statements were false, malicious, or defamatory.

According to the response, Ekpo’s comments made privately and on public platforms were based on his personal experiences and understanding of events, without any intention to harm Lambe’s reputation.

“The issues referenced arise from a complex interpersonal relationship, the facts of which cannot be selectively presented to construct a misleading narrative,” the letter stated.

Ekpo’s lawyers also faulted the ₦100 million damages demand, describing it as “excessive, unfounded, and premature,” while criticising the timeline given for compliance as unreasonable.

The legal team further disclosed that their client possesses documentary and testimonial evidence, including communication records, which they say contradict several claims made against him and would be presented at the appropriate time.

They also hinted at possible counteraction, stating that Ekpo would “robustly defend” any lawsuit and may file counterclaims for alleged harassment, intimidation, and reputational damage.

In a notable twist, the lawyers argued that Lambe’s notice could amount to an admission of some of Ekpo’s claims and may be tendered in a petition to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

The dispute stems from Ekpo’s recent appearance on The Honest Bunch, where he made a series of allegations about his estranged wife, including claims relating to their marriage, finances, and personal conduct.

However, Lambe’s legal representatives maintain that no marriage existed at the time of the interview, stating that the traditional union had been mutually dissolved before May 11, 2025. They also insist that she holds verifiable evidence including financial and medical records contradicting Ekpo’s claims.

While Ekpo’s legal team says he remains open to lawful resolution, they emphasised that he would not be pressured into making admissions under threat of legal action.
