President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments across key education agencies, targeting reforms and institutional strengthening within the sector.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointments were described as part of ongoing efforts to reposition agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education.
Among the changes, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been named Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO), while Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi remains Registrar of the council.
The President also appointed Prof. Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), alongside the earlier reappointment of Prof. Idris Bugaje as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.
In the polytechnic sector, Dr Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, for a single five-year term, succeeding Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026.
Binfa previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and has also lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
Meanwhile, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has had her tenure renewed as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term.
Anunobi, first appointed in 2021, has overseen key reforms, including the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.
The presidency noted that the appointments draw on extensive experience in education administration and research, while the renewal of Anunobi’s tenure is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, including the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
