Nigeria’s Super Falcons have moved up one spot to 36th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking, maintaining their position as Africa’s highest-ranked team.
The updated ranking, released on Tuesday, reflects a slight improvement from their previous 37th position in December 2025.
The rise follows a pair of pre-WAFCON international friendlies against Cameroon women's national football team, where the Falcons bounced back from a narrow 1–0 defeat in February to secure an impressive 3–1 victory in March.
In the second encounter, forward Chinwendu Ihezuo levelled the score in the 32nd minute with a well-placed header from a cross by Rinsola Babajide.
Babajide then turned scorer just before half-time, capitalising on a goalmouth scramble to give Nigeria the lead.
The Falcons sealed the comeback in the 64th minute when Michelle Alozie headed home a delivery from captain Rasheedat Ajibade to make it 3–1.
The result earned Nigeria an additional 3.35 points, bringing their total to 1602 in April, though still slightly below the 1607 points recorded in December.
On the African continent, Nigeria continues to lead ahead of South Africa women's national football team, Ghana women's national football team and Morocco women's national football team, ranked 58th, 59th and 62nd globally, respectively.
Globally, Spain women's national football team remain top of the rankings, followed by the United States women's national soccer team, England women's national football team, Germany women's national football team and Japan women's national football team.
The latest ranking underscores the Super Falcons’ continued dominance in African women’s football as they prepare for upcoming continental competitions.
