FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday to Mark Workers’ Day

The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday in celebration of this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

While congratulating workers across the country, the minister commended their hard work, resilience, and dedication to national development, noting that their contributions remain vital to Nigeria’s growth and overall prosperity.

Tunji-Ojo also urged workers to embrace patriotism, productivity, and commitment to their duties, stressing that these values are essential for achieving sustainable development.

He further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and security, as well as creating an enabling environment for economic growth.
