President Bola Tinubu has attributed Nigeria’s persistent electricity challenges to what he described as the poor execution of the country’s power sector privatisation by past administrations.
Speaking on the state of electricity supply, Tinubu said the structural failures inherited from earlier reforms have continued to undermine efforts to deliver stable power across the country.
“Blame the electricity issue on leaders who gave us terrible privatization of the sector,” he said, stressing that past policy decisions have had long-term consequences for national power generation and distribution.
The President noted that despite ongoing difficulties in the sector, his administration remains committed to comprehensive economic and infrastructure reforms aimed at addressing systemic inefficiencies.
He acknowledged the frustrations of Nigerians over unreliable electricity supply, describing the situation as one shaped by years of structural weaknesses rather than recent developments alone.
Tinubu further assured that government efforts are ongoing to reposition the power sector for long-term stability, improved performance, and expanded access.
He expressed optimism that with sustained reforms and collective national effort, Nigeria can overcome its current challenges and achieve a more stable and productive electricity system.
