Makinde Urges Unity in Oyo Over Security Challenges, Says Government Is Working to Restore Safety

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appealed to residents of the state to stay united and avoid blaming any level of government over the recent security challenges in the state.

He made the appeal while speaking to the public, stressing that what is needed at this time is cooperation and collective support rather than blame, adding that efforts are ongoing to address the situation.

Makinde said it was not the moment for finger-pointing. “So it’s not the time for us to say, well, it is the president that should have handled this, it is the governor or the local government. This is the time to pull together as one,” he said.

He also described those behind the attacks and kidnappings as people acting outside normal human behaviour, questioning how anyone could carry out such violent acts against others.

The governor urged students, teachers, and workers to remain calm and have confidence in the government, assuring them that steps are being taken to restore safety and secure the release of those affected.

Makinde further disclosed that security operatives deployed by the Federal Government have been on ground for the past two weeks, adding that he has been in constant meetings with them to coordinate response efforts, while warning against anything that could deepen divisions in the state.
