The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the delivery of a suspicious package containing live ammunition to the Managing Director of FirstBank, Oluwasegun Alebiosu.
Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, confirmed the development on Tuesday during a briefing at the command headquarters, stating that detectives had already commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He said the case was reported on May 7, 2026, after Alebiosu discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed inside a parcel delivered to him.
According to him, the package was first received by the bank chief’s security guard before it was eventually brought to his attention.
“The Managing Director reported the matter to the police after discovering two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition in a parcel collected on his behalf. The case is still under investigation, and we are treating it with the seriousness it deserves,” the commissioner said.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the parcel was delivered to Alebiosu’s Ikoyi residence in Lagos by a dispatch rider. The package was reportedly labelled as confidential and carried only the recipient’s name and address, without any details identifying the sender.
The police commissioner further stated that no arrests had been made so far, adding that investigators were actively following multiple leads.
He also noted that detectives are reviewing information provided by the complainant to identify individuals who may have knowledge of or involvement in the incident.
According to him, both forensic analysis and intelligence-led investigation are ongoing to trace the origin of the parcel and establish those behind its delivery.
Tijani assured residents that the command would keep the public informed as investigations progress.
The development has raised fresh concerns about the security of corporate executives and other high-profile individuals in Nigeria.
