A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, has allegedly killed his father, Salisu Abubakar, with a machete in the Bakin Kasuwa Quarters of Sara District, Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The tragic incident, which occurred around 10 a.m., was confirmed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state, Shi’isu Adam, in Dutse on Monday.
According to the PPRO, the suspect attacked his father with a machete, causing severe injuries to the victim’s shoulder, neck, and chest. Salisu Abubakar was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu, where he was confirmed dead by the attending doctor.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Sara and his patrol team responded swiftly, evacuating the victim to the hospital. The deceased’s body was later released to his family for burial.
Adam confirmed the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the machete used in the attack. He also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, AT Abdullahi, has ordered the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for a thorough investigation.
The commissioner emphasized that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations, stressing the police command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served in the case.
While the motive behind the killing remains unknown, Adam stated that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances of the incident. He assured the public of a detailed and transparent investigation and called on anyone with relevant information to assist the police.
“The suspect is in custody, and we are working to determine the motive and context of the crime,” Adam added.
