Cross River Speaker Hails Workers, Reaffirms Commitment to Labour Welfare

Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, has praised workers across various sectors for their dedication, resilience, and significant contributions to the development and stability of the state and the nation.

This commendation was contained in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Matthew Okache, on Thursday in Calabar.

Ayambem described the labour force as the backbone of societal progress, acknowledging the daily sacrifices made by civil servants, healthcare workers, teachers, traders, farmers, security personnel, and artisans. He emphasized that their unwavering commitment is vital to the state’s economic sustainability and the well-being of its citizens.

He called on workers to continue supporting Governor Bassey Otu’s administration, which is anchored on a “People First” agenda that prioritizes workforce welfare and empowerment. “May 1st is a time to celebrate and honour the men and women whose efforts fuel our economy and sustain our daily lives. Your commitment and hard work form the bedrock of our collective advancement,” the Speaker stated.

Ayambem further assured that the House of Assembly remains fully supportive of policies and legislation that protect workers’ rights, promote decent jobs, and improve the overall quality of life for the workforce. “As Speaker, I am devoted to promoting laws that improve working conditions, safeguard rights, and uplift livelihoods in Cross River. Alongside my colleagues, we will champion initiatives that reflect the aspirations of our people,” he said.

He concluded with a heartfelt message to workers, saying, “On this special day, I salute every worker in Cross River State and beyond. May your efforts never be in vain. Happy Workers’ Day! This government remains committed to ensuring that labour is respected, rewarded, and protected.
