The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has urged residents of Kaduna, particularly those in the Afaka area, to avoid its training grounds during a live Range Classification Exercise scheduled for May 5 to 8, 2025. The exercise, designed to improve participants’ weapon handling skills and operational efficiency, will take place at the NDA Open Range. In a statement issued on Sunday, the NDA's Public Relations Officer, Major Mohammed Maidawa, emphasized that all necessary safety precautions have been put in place to protect the public. “To ensure public safety throughout the period, the NDA urges members of the community, especially herders and farmers in surrounding areas, to avoid entering the range area during the exercise,” Maidawa stated. He added that strict safety protocols will be enforced and access to the firing range will be restricted to authorized personnel only. The NDA appealed to media outlets and community leaders to help spread the message widely to ensure all residents and stakeholders are fully informed and can take the necessary precautions. “Nigeria’s premier military university remains committed to maintaining positive relationships with surrounding communities while prioritizing their safety and security,” Maidawa added, expressing the Academy’s appreciation for the continued cooperation and understanding of nearby residents during this vital training exercise
