President Bola Tinubu has extended an open invitation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to officially join the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the ruling party would gladly welcome him should he make the move.
Speaking on Wednesday during the inauguration of the newly constructed Arterial Road N16 connecting to Arterial Road N20, along with other roads within the Katampe District, President Tinubu acknowledged Wike's contributions despite his current non-membership in the APC.
“We have somebody in Nyesom Wike. He’s not a member of our party—at least not yet. But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will join him in singing ‘as e dey pain them, e dey sweet us,’” Tinubu remarked.
He praised the FCT Administration under Wike’s leadership for its effective collaboration in delivering the infrastructure project, describing it as a testament to his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and its focus on reform and regeneration.
“This project represents more than a stretch of asphalt. It affirms our commitment to urban transformation. Since assuming office in May 2023, this administration has been guided by a philosophy anchored on reform and regeneration. Today, we’ve seen tangible proof of that philosophy in action,” Tinubu said.
Highlighting the importance of infrastructure in national development, the President emphasised that it was not a luxury but a necessity crucial to national competitiveness, social integration, economic opportunity, and industrial growth.
“We are investing in roads, rainpower, healthcare, education, and digital infrastructure. It is only through this coordinated and integrated development that we can unlock Nigeria’s full potential. I promise you, we will,” he added.
