Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has disclosed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, marking the first time the veteran leader has publicly acknowledged battling the disease.
The 76-year-old made the revelation while sharing details from his annual medical examination, stating that doctors detected a malignant tumour measuring less than one centimetre in his prostate during a follow-up check after surgery for an enlarged prostate in December 2024.
Medical reports released by the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the cancer was identified at an early stage and had not spread to other parts of his body. One of the doctors described it as a “very small lesion with no metastases,” indicating a strong likelihood of successful treatment.
According to a source familiar with the development, the diagnosis was made several months ago, after which Netanyahu underwent targeted radiation therapy, which he has now completed.
The prime minister said the treatment was successful, noting that the tumour has “completely disappeared” and that he is currently in good health, describing the condition as a minor issue that has been fully resolved.
Netanyahu also explained that he delayed releasing details of his medical report for about two months to prevent the information from being politicised, particularly by Iran.
