Nigerian activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has stirred reactions online after sharing his perspective on what citizens truly expect from the country’s electricity supply.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Adeyanju argued that most Nigerians are not demanding round-the-clock power but rather consistent electricity during key periods of the day.
According to him, “Nigerians don’t even want 24 hours light, can they even afford 24 hours light? Nigerians just want to come home at 8pm and meet light so they won’t sweat when they sleep and also meet the light by 7am so they can iron their clothes and then you can take the light and divert it to where factories are.”
He added that Nigerians’ expectations are modest and should not be seen as difficult to meet, particularly in the context of electricity supply challenges.
“Nigerians are not asking for much and they’re the easiest people to please. How can this be too much?” he questioned.
