President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Dr Muttaqha Darma as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

The brief ceremony took place at the President’s Conference Room inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja, shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Darma, a former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday following a screening exercise. His nomination had earlier been communicated to the upper chamber in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During his screening, Darma pledged to collaborate closely with the National Assembly to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit, noting that over 100 million Nigerians currently lack adequate housing. He also outlined plans to strengthen institutional leadership in the housing sector and expand access to affordable housing across the country.

He takes over from Ahmed Dangiwa, whose exit followed a minor cabinet reshuffle announced by the Presidency on Tuesday.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the reshuffle was designed to strengthen coordination within government and enhance economic delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Dangiwa formally handed over the ministry on Thursday in line with directives from the SGF’s office, paving the way for Darma’s assumption of duty.
