UEFA Slams Six-Match Ban on Gianluca Prestianni Over Discriminatory Conduct

European football governing body UEFA has handed SL Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni a six-match suspension following a controversial incident during a UEFA Champions League clash against Real Madrid in February.

In a statement released on Friday, UEFA said the sanction was imposed for “discriminatory (i.e. homophobic) conduct.”

However, half of the ban three matches has been suspended for a two-year probationary period, meaning the player will serve three matches immediately, with the remaining three dependent on future conduct.

The decision underscores UEFA’s continued stance against discrimination in football, reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy on offensive behaviour during competitions.
