The Federal Government has cancelled the traditional military parade initially scheduled to commemorate Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Day celebration on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
No official reason was provided for the cancellation. However, the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Democracy Day Celebration announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will instead address the nation via a national broadcast at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday.
The President is also scheduled to participate in a special joint session of the National Assembly at 12 noon on the same day. The session will focus on major democratic milestones and recent government reforms.
In a revised programme released on Wednesday and signed by Abdulhakeem Adeoye on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the committee provided an updated outline of events.
According to the statement:
“1. Presidential National Broadcast on June 12, 2025, at 7 a.m.
